Veneers

Veneers are thin covers placed over the front part of the tooth to improve their appearance. They look like natural teeth and are used to correct different dental issues such as misshapen or crooked teeth, chipped or worn teeth, stained teeth, or unevenly spaced teeth.

Veneers can be made of porcelain or resin material and can be made to match your tooth color. Your dentist can help you choose the material best for you. Different materials have different benefits. Porcelain veneers are most common and require more intensive prep work compared to its no-prep composite resin alternative.

Porcelain veneers are thin, custom-made shells that are fitted to the tooth. They are strong and long-lasting, they have a natural-looking surface, there is less enamel to be removed with a crown or a cap, and they do not stain easily.

Composite resin veneers are made from a filling material, colored to match the teeth. The benefits of resin veneers are there is less enamel needed to be removed, which means fewer visits to the dentist. They are less costly than porcelain veneers and they are easier to fix if they are damaged, but they are not as strong as porcelain veneers.

Palatal veneers are on-lays used to restore front teeth from palatable damage resulting from a deep bite, bruxism, and dental erosion. Palatable onlays are a great solution to restoring only the compromised part of the tooth or teeth.

Lumineers are a brand of veneers that replicate the shape and color of your natural tooth enamel, even more so than porcelain veneers. Lumineers are very thin and do not require tooth reduction or recontouring. This brand can last for over 20 years and are very convenient, although are prone to chipping which can shorten its lifespan.

Recovery time from veneer application is not extensive. Once the anesthetic wears off, you will be able to eat and chew as you normally would. Most patients resume life activities as normal!
